Over 350 students from across the Humber converged on Costello Stadium to take part in the Disability Sports Yorkshire Junior Athletics Championships. The event was supported by Hull Active Schools and leaders from SM6 Hull and St Mary’s College. Students from Ganton School, St Mary’s College, Sirius Academy North and Tweendykes School flew the flag for Hull. Students were battling to finish in the top two places in their categorised event to qualify for the Yorkshire Finals at Leeds in June.
There were numerous outstanding performances. Beth Smith and Ellie Richardson completed a one-two for St Mary’s College in the Under 13 Girls A Unassisted Manual Slalom and Wheelchair Bean Bag Throw. Ganton’s enjoyed an outstanding day. Sophie Carter won the Under 15 Girls B 200m in 45.9 seconds and the U15 Girls B Turbo Javelin. Team mate Holly Westby took first place in the Under 13 Girls B 100m and Long Jump. Tia Davies won the Under 11 Girls B 80m and Long Jump. St Mary’s College’s Nieve Johnson won the Under 13 Girls B 50m and Standing Long Jump. Tweendykes enjoyed great success with Lewis Hudson taking two first in the Under 13 Boys B 100, and Turbo Javelin, Tyler Thundercliffe winning the Under 15 Boys B Softball Throw and 50m. Sirius Academy North’s Jordan Sejdini won the Under 15 Boys A High Jump and 80m
