The inaugural Hull Schools Primary Athletics Championships took place at Costello Stadium during the summer term. Primary schools were invited to attend with boys and girls from years four and above to compete in track and field events throughout the day. It was fantastic to see over 90 teams attend across all age groups from 18 different Hull primary schools.
In the year 4 boys Rowan from Thanet Primary School threw a huge distance of 28.8m in the vortex howler throw to take home the gold medal. Gillshill Primary Schools 4x50m relay team won gold with a time of 34.20s, one of many dominate displays from Gillshill on the track. Esmae from Eastfield Primary School achieved gold in the year 4 Girls Standing Long Jump, jumping a whole 25cm further than her nearest competitor.
Ryan from St Richards RC Primary School ran his 75m sprint in 11.45s in the year 5 Boys to take gold. The Year 5 Boys middle distance 600m run saw Rhys from Gillshill win gold with a time of 1m 58.49s closely followed by silver medalist Lewis from Kingswood Primary School. In the year 6 boys Omar from Ings Primary School won gold in both the Standing Long Jump and 600m middle distance. Victoria from St Anthony’s won gold in the year 6 girls 75m sprint with a time of 11.30s.
We combine all distances, times and attempts from all athletes to create a school league table in each age category. Eastfield Primary School finshed top for both the year four boys and girls categories with Gillshill dominating all the year 5 and 6 competitions. Ings, Bellfield, St Thomas More and St Richards also acheived some 3rd places as a school overall. These standings are for comparison only and the event is an individual competition with medals and certificates given at each event on the day.
