500 students took part in the annual Hull Active Schools Cross Country Championships at Hull University Playing Fields. St Mary’s College took many individual and team awards as they dominated the day.
In the Year 7 girls race, Ruby Wildbore (St Mary’s College) worked her way through the filed on the final lap to take the victory. She was closely followed by team mates Alice McKenna in second and Lily Carew in third. With Grace Hillebrandt (5th), Emma Hoggard (6th) and Abbie Harris (7th), St Mary’s College took the team race by over 70 points with Malet lambert in second and Sirius Academy West in third. St Mary’s College also took the B and C team races.
In the Year 7 boys race, Cameron Gray (Malet Lambert) headed the field earlier on and was not passed. Kelvin Hall due Mason Johnson and Shafali Abdiali charged through the field to take second and third place respectively. The team race was won by Malet Lambert with St Mary’s College second and Kelvin Hall third. St Mary’s College took the B and C team races.
Isabel Downs (Kelvin Hall) battled with Lauren Mclean (Sirius Academy West) for the Year 8/9 Girls title. Downs caught Mclean on the start of the final lap and stretched away to take the victory. Amelia Pinder from Archbishop Sentamu Academy took the third place. St Mary’s College won the A team race with Malet Lambert in second and Archbishop Sentamu Academy in third. St Mary’s College took the B and C team races.
St Mary’s College’s Kian Wiles made it a treble as for the third year running he won individual honours. He stormed to the front from the gun and was always in control as he eased to victory. Team mates, Brandon Grey was second and Oliver Barloew produced a sprint finish to take third place. St Mary’s won the A team race with Sirius Academy West in second and Kelvin Hall third. St Mary’s College took the B and C team races.
Katy Greenacre (St Mary’s College) won the Year 10/11 Girls race to make it four individual Hull Schools titles out of five. Fast finishing team mate, Ellie Hyam took second with Lauren Tate (Newland) in thrid. Sirius Academy West took the A team title with Malet Lambert in second and St Mary’s College in third. St Mary’s College took the B and C team races.
Winifred Holtby Academy duo Jacob Moon and Lewis Carroll took an early lead in the Year 10/11 Boys race. On the final lap, Max Tong (St Mary’s College) caught Carroll and pipped him to the silver medal. Malet Lambert pipped St Mary’s College to the A team race by one point with Winifred Holtby Academy in third place.
The top four teams in each age group and top 15 individuals progress to the Humberside Schools Cross Country Championships in January 2018.
