Sirius Academy West won the Year 8 Hull Active Schools 5-a-side Championships in dramatic fashion. 11 teams from 9 schools took part in two ability and experience graded competitions with over 80 students taking part.
Sirius Academy West and Malet Lambert both remained unbeaten as they played each other in the final round of matches in the six team Division 1 competition. Sirius Academy West knew that a draw would be good enough after scoring three more goals during the course of the competition. In a dramatic game, Malet Lambert raced into a 3-1 lead with two minutes remaining. Sirius Academy west pulled a goal back with one minute to go and then in dramatic fashion hit an equaliser with 20 seconds left on the clock to take the title by the virtue of scoring more goals. Kelvin Hall were third, St Mary’s College A fourth, The Marvell College fifth and Winifred Holtby Academy sixth.
St Mary’s College B took the Division 2 title. They remained unbeaten throughout the competition after three wins and a draw against Sirius Academy North. Sirius Academy North went into the final round of matches with a chance to take the title on goals scored but Archbishop Sentamu Academy upset the odds and took a win to give St Mary’s College B the title. The Marvell College B were third, The Boulevard Academy fourth and Archbishop Sentamu Academy fifth.
