U11 Humberside 7aside Cup
Hull Active Schools held the first of three Hull school qualifying events for the Under 11 Boys Humberside FA 7aside Championships at St Mary’s College on Tuesday 25th September.
Eastfield Primary School, St Antony’s VC Academy, Spring Cottage Primary School, Craven Primary Academy, Priory Primary School and Oldfleet Primary school were in attendance. Teams were split into two groups of three with each team playing two fixtures in the initial group stage.
Spring Cottage set the tone with a 3-0 victory against a competitive Craven team and cemented their place in the semi-final with another win against Oldfleet. Oldfleet held their own for the majority of the game until a last minute winner from Spring Cottage snatched all 3 points in the dying seconds. Oldfleet beat Craven 2-0 to claim the second qualifying spot from their group.
Priory and Eastfield cancelled each other out in their group stage game, finishing 0-0. The match was a tense, tactical affair. St Antony’s lost both match’s against Eastfield and Priory, meaning it went down to goals scored to determine Eastfield as winners of the group and Priory in second place.
The semi-finals provided some great Football for the many parents and spectators in attendance. The 7aside rules are designed to encourage more passing with ‘Kick Ins’ instead of throw ins and the ‘team retreat’ rule on opposing team goal-kicks to allow playing out from the back. This enabled some fantastic passing moves by all teams. Eastfield and Spring Cottage won their respected matches to set up an enticing Final, with the winner qualifying for the Humberside Finals in November. Eventually, after a close first half, Spring Cottage dominated proceedings with a 3-0 victory over Eastfield to claim the qualification.
Well done to all schools involved and Spring Cottage Primary School. We wish you Good Luck in the finals!
