Thirteen teams from nine schools with over 100 students took part in the annual Under 14 Girls Hull Active Schools 5-a-side Championships at Goals Soccer Centre, Hull. The tournament is part of the Hull Active Schools Girls Football Programme within the city as part of the FA Girls Hub School Partnership with St Mary’s College. The competition was divided into two competitions based on previous experience and ability.
St Mary’s College A were the dominant team in the Division 1 Championships as they swept to the title remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament. Winifred Holtby Academy and Sirius Academy West had 10 points after three wins and a draw. The teams could not be separated initially as the head to head game finished in a draw. The North Hull school took the runners up position as they scored 11 goals to the West Hull school’s 10. Archbishop Sentamu Academy were fourth, Kelvin Hall fifth and St Mary’s College B sixth.
Seven teams contested the Division 2 Championships. After an initial group phase, Malet Lambert and Kingswood Academy contested a pulsating final which ended in a draw and finished with a penalty shoot-out. Kingswood Academy ran out winners 6-5 on penalties. Archbishop Sentamu Academy B were third after beating Sirius Academy North in the third and fourth play-off game. Winifred Holtby Academy were fifth, Newland A sixth and Newland B seventh.
