St Mary’s and Oakfield On Target In Boccia Championships
11 teams from St Mary’s College, Sirius Academy West, Ganton, Oakfield and Frederick Holmes took part in the annual Hull Active Schools Secondary Boccia Championships at St Mary’s College. Umpires were provided from the new and expanding Hull Active Schools Inclusion Sport Leadership Academy.
In the Key Stage 3 Plus 1 competition, five teams from St Mary’s College battled it out with Sirius Academy West for the honours. In a tense battle, St Mary’s College B led St Mary’s College B going into the final round of games by 2 match points. St Mary’s College C beat St Mary’s College A whilst St Mary’s College B lost to St Mary’s College D. This handed St Mary’s College C the title with 13 points to St Mary’s College B’s 12 points. Sirius Academy West took third place with St Mary’s College E, C and A teams finishing in fourth, fifth and sixth place respectively.
Hull Active Schools welcomed Frederick Holmes for the first time into their Inclusion Sport programme. In the Key Stage 4 Plus 2 competition, they made a flying start winning both their two opening games along with Ganton B. However, there was a dramatic change in the second half of the competition with Oakfield winning their final two games to produce a thrilling finish. Oakfield, Ganton B and Frederick Holmes all had six match points and had each won one of their respective head to head matches. The placings were decided by the total number of game points with Oakfield’s 25 pipping Frederick Holmes’s 20 to take the title. Ganton B were third and Ganton A were fourth.
Sirius Academy West took the Key Stage 4 Plus 1 title after winning the overall Key Stage 4 Championships.
