14 teams and 70 students from ages 11-16 took part in the annual Hull Active Schools Inclusion Boccia Championships at St Mary’s College. The competition is part of a 19 inclusion sport event calendar aimed to give children who do not participate in mainstream sports the chance to compete.
In the Key Stage 3 Plus 1 competition, 8 teams competed from St Mary’s College, Sirius Academy North and Sirius Academy West. A tough and hard fought competition resulted in the St Mary’s College B team of Nieve Johnson, Lily Griffin, Melodie Whitton and Craig McKinlay beat their counterparts from the St Mary’s College C team to the title. Sirius Academy West A finished in third place.
In the Key Stage 3 Plus 2 competition, the final saw Ganton A team beat Ganton B 7-4 to take the title. In the Key Stage 4 Plus 1 competition, Sirius Academy North A romped to the title remaining unbeaten over their six games with Sirius Academy North B, Sirius Academy West and St Mary’s College finishing in joint second place.
The competition was officiated and led by the St Mary’s College Year 12 BTEC National in Sport group as part of their SM6 Leadership Academy programme.
