Hull schools dominated in the Humberside Schools Individual Table Tennis Finals at St Mary’s College.
In the Under 11 Boys competition, Lennon Maughan-Staves (St Vincents) was a comfortable winner. Freddie Vickers (Victoria Dock) and Joel Smith (Fairfield academy, Grimsby) were tied on six wins each. Vickers took second spot on the basis of winning the head to head game. In the Under 11 Girls competition, Sam McClounam (Buckingham Academy) took the title.
St Mary’s College dominated the Under 13 Boys competition, taking seven out of the eight quarter final places after the initial group phase. In the semi-finals, Ehsan Jawadi beat Luke Lowther whilst Zac Foston upset the form book beating Hull Schools Champion Ashton Innes in a close game 3-2. Jawadi overcame Foston 3-1 in the final to take the title whilst Luke Lowther beat Innes 3-2 to complete an excellent day for St Mary’s College in this age group.
In the Under 13 Girls, St Mary’s College duo Freya Noyes and Jessica Sanderson found the competition tough with the top three places going to schools from the South Bank. Havelock Academy’s willow Barber taking the title.
Che Goulbourne was a comfortable winner in the Under 16 Boys age group beating Luke Nimmo (Healing) 3-0 in the final. Jack Hewitt (St Mary’s College) overcame Jack Raines (Sir John Nelthorpe) 3-1 overcoming a defeat to the same opponent in the group phase. Likewise, Gauri Duhan (Hymers College) was a comfortable winner in the Under 16 Girls age group.
In the Under 19 Girls age group, Zoe Hewitt (St Mary’s College) beat Klaudia Chabowska (John Leggott College) 3-0 to take the title with brother, Jack Hewitt (St Mary’s College) taking the Under 19 Boys title.
