Hull Primary Badminton Championships
Hull Badminton Club hosted and supported the finals of the Primary Badminton Championships. These championships started in November with over 27 school teams competing for a place in the finals! Ings, Thoresby, Victoria Dock, Eastfield and Christopher Pickering secured a place in the final after winning or finishing runners up in their respected qualifying rounds
The format of competition is a Timed Team event. This involves players competing in singles matches against similar ranked opponents for a 2 minute time period. Full team fixtures last 10 minutes with the a cumulative score taken from all 5 singles. All school teams played each other once in a round robin league to determine the overall winners.
The final league match just so happened to involve two school teams who had won all their previous games, Victoria Dock and Thoresby, and effectively turned into a final. True to form, this match was extremely competitive and the final score ended 28-27 in favour of Thoresby! A nail-biting finish.
Congratulation to Thoresby Primary School who are crowned 2018/19 Badminton Champions!
We have an exciting opportunity for all schools in Hull. Working in partnership with Hull University Sports Development and Badminton England, we are delivering a brand new Badminton Festival aimed at complete beginners and our focus will be on player development as opposed to finding an outright winner.
